“Senior Moments”
Here is the first CD by this excellent band, based in the North-west of England. Their last recording (a cassette I believe) was in 1998 - they should have been recorded far more frequently than they have. Don’t make the mistake of confusing them with Harlem (Paul Munnery’s big band); this is a seven-piece band playing the music of the classic jazz era by Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet etc. I first saw the band at the Keswick Jazz Festival several years ago. I was very impressed, and it is a great pleasure to have recorded and produced their first CD. The band line-up is Bill Smith cornet, Tony Foulkes clarinet, soprano & alto saxes, John Ronan trombone, John Reade piano, Ian McCann banjo and guitar, Dave Parr double bass, Dave Berry drums. The tunes are:- It's Shufflin' time, Smokey Mokes, Chimes Blues, Egyptian Fantasy, Harlem Bound, Put On Your Old Gray Bonnet, Georgia Swing, Flow Gently Sweet Afton, Snag It, The Cakewalk in The Sky, Mezz's Tune, Mama's Gone Goodbye, Oriental Man, My Blue Heaven, Bogalousa Strut.
