Catalogue Note: Phil Brown says his Swingtet has a "broad band" musical policy. Their main influence is the small swing band music of the 1950s and '60s, principally Count Basie, Duke Ellington and the Buck Clayton jam sessions. However their repertoire also includes tunes more usually associated with traditional jazz bands. This is evident from the list of tunes on their latest CD, recorded at the 2008 Keswick Jazz Festival:- Crazy Rhythm, Milenburg Joys, Song For My Father, Keeping Out Of Mischief Now, Blue 'n' Boogie, Over The Rainbow, S'Wonderful, Splanky, Christopher Columbus, A Simple Waltz, Autumn Leaves, Work Song. The band line-up is slightly changed from their previous CD (PKCD-279 "Swinging at The Cricks") as pianist Andrew Clancy was at home with his wife for the birth of their son. His place was taken by Peter Godfrey; the other band members are Phil Brown trombone, Lester Brown trumpet, Mark Aston reeds, Mike Bennett double bass and David Clancy drums. (78 mins) |
