"Capturing the best in British Traditional Jazz"

Keswick Festival 2009 -
"Lucien Barbarin with The Dave Donohoe Band"

Catalogue Note:
This recording very nearly didn't happen. At Keswick 2009 I was booked to record three bands John Shillito's Select Six, Hot Banana (not released), and New Orleans Wiggle. At the last minute I had a message to say that Dave Donohoe would like me to record this session. There followed some fairly frantic efforts to contact Lucien Barbarin to get his agreement to be recorded. It was all sorted out with not much time to spare and here is the result. At first sight a band line-up with two trombones and no trumpet, playing traditional jazz might seem slightly strange but it works extremely well. Lucien Barbarin, great-nephew of Paul Barbarin, is a supremely accomplished musician with an ability to entertain. He and Dave Donohoe worked wonderfully well together. The rest of the band is Frank Brooker clarinet & tenor sax, Tom Kincaid piano, Mal Horne banjo & guitar, Jim Swinnerton double bass and Bill Evans drums. The tunes are:- Muskrat Ramble, St James Infirmary, Marie, Hobo's Lullaby, Weary Blues, When I Grow Too Old To Dream, Bye Bye Blues, Original Dixieland One-step, Girl Of My Dreams, It Makes No Difference Now, Bourbon St Parade. (72min)
