BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!
As I mentioned in the last Record News life has been very busy during the Summer months and not just with my recordings. Ann and I have had some excellent short break holidays including a classic car tour to the Isle of Man in August which was great fun, and later in September we're going to Picardie in France with the old car. It will be the first time we've taken the classic car out of the UK.
The death of my Brother in March resulted in a lot of work for Ann and me, clearing his house and sorting out his affairs. That is all now complete and the house is sold - a sad time.
Ann's problems with her Mother continue. It seems almost everyone of our age whom we speak to has, or has had, similar problems with aged parents.
The sudden increase in my musical workload was in part due to the fact that several bands wanted their new CDs completed in time for important Jazz Festivals - notably Bude. In fact all three of this quarter's new releases were completed just in time for the bands to take them to major jazz festivals.
For the same reason two of the next quarter's releases are already complete, though they won't appear in the catalogue until December. They are PKCD-363 Slide By Slide "Pro Bono" and PKCD-364 Mellow Avstreih with Paul Munnery's Swing Street "A Way Of My Own". These two CDs are available now from me or from the bands.
Now I must try and catch up with boring stuff like accounts and my tax return!
I thought it was only 'old' people like me who complain about time passing ever more quickly. I was having a haircut yesterday and the girl said "I don't know - September already. Where has 2011 gone?" And she was aged about twenty. Then someone said "Only 115 days to Christmas" - scary thought!

LOOKING AHEAD
For the first time in ages I have only one recording booked - a provisional request from Brian Carrick to record him at Keswick next year; I think it's with an international band. Mind you there's still quite a backlog of excellent CDs to be produced from recordings already 'in the can'. I am considering releasing four new CDs at Christmas; in addition to the two already mentioned above there will be the first CD by Chris Pearce's Frenchmen Street Jazz Band plus possibly one other, to be decided.
Then there will be CDs by The Rae Brothers NOJB, Brian Carrick's Algiers Stompers, The Forest NOJB, and Steve Graham's NOJB. The planned recording of The Reunion Band has been delayed because of personnel changes within the band. I've spoken to George Buckman and he intends to go ahead with the recording as soon as possible. The band is booked for one of Pete Lay's jazz weekends in September 2012 so they really want the CD complete by then.
Merry Christmas and Enjoy your jazz.
